The Dream

So I have been looking to change... well not careers, as this is not what I want to do with my life, but jobs. Trying to find something to make me happy. An exercise someone gave me that is suppose to help is to say what would you do if you won the lottery?

I had to think about this a little bit. I think like everyone else there is a few things that pop into mind.

- Travel. I have never really searched the globe to see all its beauty
- Buy a House. Just a place to call home
- Buy all the toys I want. I could spend days playing with a new bike, car and boat.
- Buy happiness. Wait money can't buy this... or can it.

Money might not be able to be true happiness, but used right, it can get what will make you happy. I would invest in myself. By what ever I needed to make my own production company, and believe that what I made was going to be successful.

You see I think with today's "Market" most people are doing what I want to be doing, wrong. I see a few people on twitter trying the way I would, but even still they are only doing half the work they should. Without giving away the idea, you need to hit art with what sells.

I think if you look at some of Joss Wheden's work, you will see some brilliance on his part. The man knows how to use metaphors, and string a story together. A lot of his problem is he is too far a head of his time. Lets look at his most successful work to date, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

This is a show that was critically praised but never got a lot of people watching, now why? People saw the vampires and thought it was a kids show. I know because I am one of them. But the truth is it was just too soon. Now Vampires are huge, everyone is trying to get a piece of them, and you can't tell me, BtVS is not better written than them all. I am a huge fan of True Blood, but it is terribly written compared to True Blood.

So you have to find your art, and find what is pop culture today, and figure how to make them mesh. This is what makes or breaks success, today. The people that can set the trends are people with a lot more money than the rest of us.

Bits and hits...

So i wanted to talk about a few little things...

I think that as long as I am keeping this I should actually try to work on my writing style. Until now I have not really thought about it, I know before this point the writing is not good, even now it is not. I don't consider myself a writer, I do wish to be a story teller, this might help being a writer. So From the next blog on maybe I will try and come up with a style. I guess I should figure that out first.

Added another to the list of the dirty thirty, I am going to get a tattoo that I have been wanting to get for the past 15 years and just alway put off. I think it is time, and maybe this will symbolize the start of walking the walk. I will try to get a photo up of the future tattoo when I am not at work,

First I still hate twitter, but it seems I do like to get info now. It has become a tool that must be used now if you want to know what is going on right now. I still think it is a bit stupid, and we could just as easily post this info on say Facebook, but whatever.

The modern day is upon us, and it is moving fast. new technology is making many professions harder, and to some easier. It is becoming more frustrating, but there is not much one can do but try to learn as much as they can, and wish for simpler times. Man I feel old saying that.

Making the list

first i would like to say I have been blogging again, yes all two posts, thanks to two other people, one a friend who recently did a trip around the world. The other a struggling artist who is finally starting to make some headway. Take a look at their blogs at page59.com, and Dallion.com.

So I have started to make the list of 30 things I will do when I turn 30. It has become increasingly harder. I already need four more things to make it to 30, plus I think some will be cut for logistics reasons, as I only have so much time and so much money.

The entire list at this moment is formed from one big trip to Vancouver Island, where I plan to do the West Coast Trail, Surf, visit the largest Tree in north America, and Fly a Kite. Some other things that may get thrown into that trip will be Wine Tasting Walking barefoot in the forest. Eating a fresh BC Grown apple.

Other things on the list that I think I can do in a day are trips up the Squamish Chief, doing all three peaks, and a Walk around the Sea Wall a 26 km walk.

The list has become something it was not originally suppose to be, everything I put something on the list I think oh I would really enjoy doing that with someone. It has become a list of the best giant date for someone like me. In doing so you put someone in mind to do everything with. For me it has become this one girl that I nick named Mila. I do know her real name, and we are friends, but for now lets just keep it at the nickname.

I really hope she agrees to do this stuff with me, as I think it will achieve two things for me. First keep me to my word. Make sure I do as much as I can on the list. Second, I have put this trip onto such a pedestal without her it will come crashing down if only momentarily I would like to stop that from happening.

Quick and Dirty

So once again I am going to try and start blogging again. It has gone so well so far... Does anyone still read this? Did anyone ever?

Well I am really going for the filmaker thing now, this has all started how anything else really starts for a straight male. It was about a girl. Now it is all about a different girl but still hey at least I am consistent.

So this new energy starts from the fact I am going to turn 30 fairly soon. It is a big daunting number. So I have started to create a list of things I want to do the year I turn 30. They start with a big bash of a party, following one of my favorite bands songs, "The Crawl" by Spirit of the west, where I am going to do a pub crawl for my 30th, to doing a Triathlon, and doing the West Coast trail.

So one of the things on the list is to make the pilot for my web series next year. So with that in mind I am going to start writing here to hopefully force myself to get really into it.

so what of the girl? Well keep reading and maybe you will find out.

The art of Coattail riding

Yes another Survivor post, that quick after the other one. But the previous thread got me thinking of this one. Many people don't like coattail riders, in the game and call them undeserving winners. I disagree.

While they do not make for great TV, it does however take a lot of skill, to do it right. Yes some just stumble onto the right one, others do it with specific idea's in mind.

Now the best example of this is Natalie from Somoa, clear as day she explains her strategy for the rest of the game. She is going to align with this guy who is playing this game controlling but is also a prick to everyone else, she says she knows if she goes to the end with him she will beat him. The first thing she does is recognize someone she can beat in the jury. Good jury management and we have not even gotten to the jury yet. But she is also a great player and when the tribes merge, it is her that saves the back of her "mark" getting the entire tribe to vote off one of their own instead of the obvious. Could she have won without him? Who knows, but I would think she would still be up there.

Now people have also been calling Sandra the two time winner a coattail rider, and this is just wrong. She is incredibly smart and starts the game with a simple strategy, as long as it is not me. Even when she is aligned with people she does not need anyone. She knows how to talk to people with an ease and make her point without seeming pushy. She puts herself into position to win. That is all that matters.

The Survivor Question

So I hoped the whole argument of how good a player is Russel Krantz would have died down by now. I mean it has been a a while plus a entire new season has finished airing. But people still want to compare and talk about it. So here it goes one more time. He is somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Yes he is great at getting himself to the final, but no he is terrible, at well everything else about the game. Let's break everything down here for a second. Most people use this logic, being in the top 3 or two gives you a 33.3% or 50% of winning. Versus going out somewhere before gives you a 0% chance of winning. Although the second half of the statement is true, the first is not. The most important part of the game is not getting to the end, but jury management. If you can't win you might as well have been voted off first.

Let's look at it like this, why did people vote out Boston Rob in HvV? Well besides Russell who wanted to be in charge of the tribe they all that he could win. Ok, don't believe me, two girls went this year at 6 and 4 strictly because people new they would lose to them in the end. They were taken out before people had the chance to award them with the money.

What this tells us is often people who have the best chance of winning don't make it to the final. Now when this happens for the most part it is good jury management, depending on how you vote them out. Here is the most important part of jury management, getting people you vote out to still want to vote for you.

How is this done, many ways, but it all depends on the person. Everyone you vote out will take it differently. It is up to the person who votes them out to try and figure out if they will be glad you back stabbed them, or if they went down and you stayed loyal.

If we look at that the most important part of the games, Russell was terrible at. He had no clue of how to vote people out and still get them to vote for him, or how to read a jury. It was a huge mistake of his to take Sandra with him to the finals, it gave the jury an out instead of voting for him or someone in his alliance. If he had read the jury he would know none of the people there respected his game play. They all were looking for someone, anyone else to vote for.

Harry Potter and Hermione

So I have been watching Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on TV, and it has been making me think of what I was thinking when I first read the books. In this book one of the big themes is the relationships between the main characters and their feeling for each other.

Now I always liked the idea of Harry and Hermione together, yes I understood the reasons for them not being together being the theme of family for Harry, as he becomes a part of the Weasley family. Something he was always missing in his life.

But for me I always liked Harry and Hermione. Maybe because it was and I guess is what I always picture a good relationship as. Two people that are great friends at the core of their relationship. You go back and you see what both was willing to do for each other, and what they said when one of them needed someone. It was whet love should be.
